Surprise Proposal Photos at Peaceful Place Farm | Princeton, Ontario

I had the pleasure of capturing Eddie’s surprise proposal to Alex at Peaceful Place Farm in Princeton, Ontario, on a calm, snowy day out in the country.

Alex’s horse lives on the farm, so the whole session started where it makes the most sense, inside the barn.

A snowy farm engagement session (with a horse in the spotlight)

We began with a few photos of Alex and her horse inside the barn, where the light was soft and the whole place felt warm despite the snow outside. I brought an off-camera GODOX V1 flash so that I could get some more elegant and editorial feeling photos in the mix. As an Ontario engagement photographer, I love starting sessions this way: slow, comfortable, and with something familiar in the frame. It helps people relax fast.

Once we had those cozy barn shots, we took the horse out for a walk through the snowy trail. The farm was quiet, and the fresh snow made everything look clean and bright. The kind of winter day photographers hope for.

The proposal

At the end of the trail, we reached an opening that led into a field. That was Eddie’s dream spot.

He’d planned it perfectly. A wide open view, snow on the ground, and that stillness you only get out in the country. As a surprise proposal photographer, I always try to stay invisible in moments like this. Let it unfold. Keep it natural.

And honestly, I was praying the horse wouldn’t steal the moment.

But… of course it did.

Right when Eddie bent down on one knee, the horse got curious and stepped forward, sticking its face right into the shot. Perfect timing, in its own chaotic way. The result? A proposal photo that’s not just romantic, but also hilarious and completely true to who they are.

One of those once-in-a-lifetime frames you could never plan. Only catch.

Ring shots + family photos to wrap it up

After the proposal, we took a few photos to highlight the ring, plus some relaxed portraits together. Just a beautiful little family, soaking in the moment, letting the excitement settle in.

That’s always the goal for me as a proposal photographer in the GTA — to capture the story, then give you space to enjoy it.

Eddie and Alex, thanks again for trusting me with this day. It was one of those sessions I’ll remember for a long time.
